Wytheville, VA – The Wythe County Chapter of Virginia Organizing will hold a listening session in Wytheville to hear community perspectives of and opposition to local data centers on Saturday, February 21 at 11 a.m. The chapter is partnering with Preserve Wythe County to co-facilitate the listening session to provide facts and listen to community concerns about data centers and lack of transparency from local government.
The listening session is being organized after the county announced its first major data center project in December, which is planned to be a 99-acre AI computing campus developed by Solis Arx, a digital infrastructure company. The $1 billion investment is projected to generate over $10 million in annual tax revenue by 2028, but residents have their doubts.
“Wythe County doesn’t need to sacrifice its land and water for a fleeting promise of profit that will only benefit billionaires,” said Wythe County Chapter leader, Christa Braston. “Wythe County is our home, not a pit stop for billionaires.”
