Norfolk, VA – On Tuesday, August 19 at 3:45 p.m., Virginia Organizing chapter members and residents of Hampton Roads will come together in downtown Norfolk for a “March to Dismantle ICE,” protesting the recent U.S. Immigration and Customs (ICE) policies and enforcement in the region. Protesters will march from the Norfolk Federal building to the Norfolk Courthouse and back as a demonstration of collective support in front of the regional ICE field office.
The action will take place in response a 350 percent increase in immigration arrests and detainments across Virginia reported in July. Virginia Organizing stands in solidarity with immigrant populations across Virginia who are strong pillars across the Commonwealth, from childcare providers and educators to medical professionals, first responders, military members, and state government. Virginia is for immigrants and our communities thrive when we work together for justice and equality.
At the protest, Virginia Organizing will also share resources for other ways that community members can get involved in providing support for immigrant community members.
