Richmond, Va. – Virginia Organizing will hold a press conference near the Capitol Square Bell Tower in Richmond during the General Assembly session on Wednesday, February 18 at 1 p.m. At the press conference, representatives of the organization will cover its legislative priorities for the 2026 General Assembly session, including access to affordable health care, child care, housing, and utilities, as well as environmental justice and restoration of rights. They will also call on the General Assembly to respond effectively to federal cuts to essential programs, including Medicaid and SNAP. Speakers will include members of the Virginia Organizing State Governing Board.
“When we come together, I want us to be unafraid to confront the rising issues around affordable health care, housing, school funding, and the criminalization of undocumented people. Let’s stand up, speak out, and fight back against the attacks on our democracy,” said Chairperson, Patrice Smallwood.
Virginia Organizing chapters have been meeting with legislators to address these priorities since the start of the General Assembly session in January. They have meetings with representatives scheduled before the press conference and throughout the remainder of the session.
