Williamsburg, Va. – On Wednesday, November 5, the Williamsburg Area Chapter of Virginia Organizing will be protesting against the continued and increasing activity of ICE in the area. There have been several members of the community detained in recent months, and the chapter is standing in solidarity with the local immigrant communities.

Residents and chapter members are speaking out about why they will be attending the protest, including William & Mary students who support the cause.

“To love something doesn’t just require feeling but also actions, continuous small and large actions that showcase commitment. Like many W&M students, I love this community, and I wanted to make sure my actions reflected that care, which is why I chose to protest in support of immigrants and against those who challenge their safety. I encourage everyone to reflect on whether their public and private actions, whether small or large, show where their heart resides,” said Ava Reed.

Other community members have expressed their feelings of responsibility to take action during this crucial time.

“I’m protesting because I cannot sit idly by while my neighbors are kidnapped. I believe I have a responsibility to speak up on this issue. Our country is made up of immigrants and anyone who comes to our country is trying to make a better life for their family. Right here in Hampton Roads we need to wake up to the reality that ICE is here and that we need to speak up as a community against it,” said Lauren Bowen.

At the protest, volunteers will be available to share information about additional support for community members.
